The adventure
The New River Gorge drops away beneath one of America’s iconic steel arch bridges, revealing layers of Appalachian forest and a winding river far below. The visitor-center overlooks make this extraordinary landscape approachable without a strenuous hike.
Interpretive displays and short paths explain how the river carved the gorge and how the bridge changed travel through the region. It is an excellent orientation stop before exploring the park’s longer hikes, climbing areas, and river adventures.
