The adventure

Felburn Park is a wonderfully strange corner of Florida: wooded hills rise above an old quarry lake, and nearby waterways trace the footprint of the unfinished Cross Florida Barge Canal. The Phil’s Lake Trail reveals how quickly nature can soften a heavily altered landscape.

A short walk brings open water, forest, and unexpected changes in elevation—unusual enough in this part of Florida to make the trail feel distinctive. Birdwatchers and curious walkers alike will find plenty to look at along the reclaimed mine landscape.

ONCE YOU’RE THERE

Park at Felburn Park and locate the signed Phil’s Lake nature route. Follow the established loop around the former quarry area and return to the same parking lot.

LOCAL INTEL

The lake occupies a former dolomite mining area, and the park is part of the larger Cross Florida Greenway.
