The adventure
A sandstone ledge opens above the Cheat River Gorge, with forested ridges flowing away to the horizon. Coopers Rock is one of the most recognizable views in northern West Virginia and a dramatic introduction to the state forest.
The approach is short, leaving time to enjoy the overlook, nearby rock formations, and forest atmosphere. In autumn, the gorge fills with fiery hardwood colors that contrast with the pale sandstone.

From the main overlook parking area follow the signed approach to the established viewing area, then return.
