The adventure
Hidden among the steep mountains of the South Branch Potomac corridor, Smoke Hole Caverns reveals glittering calcite, stone draperies and formations created by underground water. The route swaps big mountain vistas for a quieter landscape of shadow, rock and carefully illuminated chambers.
This is a managed show-cave experience, so visitors can see the subterranean features without technical caving equipment. The surrounding Smoke Hole landscape adds dramatic mountain scenery to the drive.
