The adventure
A narrow sandstone gorge cuts into the forested slopes near Devil’s Lake, creating a cool passage where water trickles over rock and moss grows in shaded crevices. Parfrey’s Glen is intimate rather than immense, but the closeness of the canyon walls gives the walk a memorable sense of discovery.
The route begins in leafy woodland and gradually draws you toward the creek and sculpted stone. The natural area protects a delicate plant community, so the most rewarding way to explore is slowly, staying within the designated corridor and noticing small details rather than scrambling off trail.
ONCE YOU’RE THERE
Park in the signed lot on County Highway DL and follow the designated path north. Continue toward the gorge, staying within the marked creek corridor where allowed. Do not go beyond the waterfall base; return on the same route.
LOCAL INTEL
No pets, food, or beverages are allowed in the natural area.
GOOD TO KNOW
The site is open 6 AM–8 PM; a state park vehicle sticker is required for parking. Rock and creek surfaces can be slippery; stay within permitted access boundaries.
FEES & ACCESS
State park vehicle admission sticker required to park at Parfrey’s Glen.
