The adventure

Few city parks deliver a reveal like Minnehaha Falls. Water drops over a limestone ledge into a wooded gorge, creating a dramatic natural centerpiece within Minneapolis and just minutes from busy urban streets.

The outing can be as easy as viewing the falls from above or as adventurous as following permitted seasonal paths down toward the creek corridor. Bridges, shade trees, and the sound of rushing water make this an excellent short escape in any season.

ONCE YOU’RE THERE

Walk from the main park paths to the upper falls overlook. If the city has opened the lower gorge stairway, descend only on designated routes, then return to the upper park.

LOCAL INTEL

The waterfall is highly seasonal in appearance: spring runoff can be powerful, while winter may create a striking curtain of ice.

TRAIL CONDITIONS & SAFETY

Lower gorge paths and stairs may be closed in icy weather or after storms. Obey closure barriers and do not walk beneath unstable ice.

FEES & ACCESS

Park access is free; municipal parking charges may apply.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

Year-round viewing; lower paths may close seasonally.
