The adventure
A loose river-edge wander beside one of eastern Idaho's most scenic stretches of the Snake. Use Wolf Flats as a base to explore the South Fork shoreline, cottonwoods and open river views on foot. The adjacent undeveloped boat access opens directly onto the South Fork.
Start from the main Wolf Flats recreation area, walk the river corridor for roughly three-quarters of a mile, choose one standout river bend as your turnaround, return to the same parking area. Cottonwoods and river habitat make this good country for birds and other wildlife. Portable toilets are normally located in the large main site.
ONCE YOU’RE THERE Park in the large main Wolf Flats recreation area off Snake River Road. Walk the established river-side roads and durable paths without entering occupied campsites, keep the South Fork in sight, turn around near the three-quarter-mile mark, and return.
LOCAL INTEL There is no garbage collection here, so everything you bring leaves with you.
FEES, PERMITS & ACCESS No mandatory entrance, parking, access, permit, reservation, or similar fee is required to complete this Adventure as routed.
