The adventure
Rosy Mound packs a memorable Lake Michigan dune landscape into a compact hike: wooded slopes give way to sand, stairways and glimpses of blue water. The boardwalk guides visitors through sensitive dune habitat while opening dramatic views of the shoreline.
The walk is as much about the journey over the dunes as the beach itself. Forest shade, exposed sandy rises and the sound of surf create a varied experience, and the climb back inland makes the outing more strenuous than the short distance suggests.
ONCE YOU’RE THERE
Start at the official natural-area entrance and stay on the marked stair-and-boardwalk route to the shore. Allow time for the return climb.
