The adventure
Follow a guide underground through the enormous cave system beneath Chestnut Ridge. Enter Pennsylvania's largest cave system and follow a guide into the steep passages beneath Chestnut Ridge.
This 0.25-mile guided underground tour adventure in Laurel Highlands / Farmington is best approached as a real outing, not simply a pin on a map. The experience centers on Laurel Caverns State Park — Traditional Guided Tour, with the route and stopping points chosen to make the defining features accessible from the documented public starting point. Allow time to enjoy the setting rather than racing through it.
GETTING THERE & STARTING OUT Drive Skyline Drive to Caverns Park Road and follow it to the visitor-center parking area. Purchase the required cave-tour ticket at the visitor center; tickets are sold on-site. Join the assigned Traditional Guided Tour and stay with the guide for the entire underground route. The cave is a natural environment with steep grades, uneven footing and no cell service. Return to the visitor center with the tour group to complete the Challenge. Your documented starting point is Laurel Caverns State Park Visitor Center Parking. Use that access rather than navigating directly to a scenic feature, which may not have legal parking or a public approach. For driving navigation, the recorded destination is Laurel Caverns State Park, 1065 Skyline Drive, Farmington, PA 15437.
