The adventure

Convict Lake sits beneath an almost impossibly dramatic wall of Sierra peaks, with Mount Morrison rising sharply behind blue-green water. Even a short stroll along the shore feels alpine and expansive, especially when the mountains reflect in calm morning light.

The lakeside route alternates between open views and shaded aspen or willow patches, with fishing spots, boulders and changing angles of the mountain skyline. In autumn the foliage can turn gold; in spring snow still clings to the steep faces above the lake.
